I have said before that I am working on a new comedy, but I haven’t said much about what it is. Here’s a little taste:
“This has been a long time coming, but I have decided to at last record my life and experiences in this journal. I have wanted to do this for quite some time in hopes that someday others may understand and know what has transpired in my not-so-normal life. On the outside, it looks like I have a normal life. I work in an office and have a nice home and a brand new pick-up. My neighbors often see me working outside on projects, or mowing the lawn, but they have no idea what is really going on. I have to pretend there is no problem, I go to work and try to act normal, and even my wife doesn’t know what fear I face every day. Yes, I live in constant fear – fear of my wife. This is the first time I will have said or wrote anything about this, but I have reason to believe my wife is an evil witch.”
Lately I have been toying with the idea of writing a fantasy mystery set in Goandria. It definitely would not be my next book, but maybe sometime down the line I will write it. Would a mystery set in a fantasy world interest any of you? What sort of elements would you like to be included? Would you read a Goandria mystery? Let me know your thoughts!
One of the greatest truths I have learned since I began my writing journey is that authorship is a very humbling endeavor. Some may have images of an illustrious author doing book signings, having thousands of adoring fans, and making decent money. The truth is that this image is a very rare situation. Becoming successful can mean different things to different people, and no matter how good a work is, there will always be people who hate it and think it is trash.
Writing is a hard road, and it is met with constant obstacles. The marketing aspect is perhaps the most challenging. An author must find his or her audience, know how to cater to it, and convince that audience to continually buy books. The author does not have any control over someone else buying a book and writing a scathing review.
In light of this, I find it difficult to imagine how any writer could become arrogant. My journey has already been full of ups and downs. With writing there are factors within the author’s control, such as producing a quality book, having a website and blog, and trying different advertisements, but there are other things that are purely luck. It takes lots of time and effort to get a book out there. Patience is not exactly my strong suit, especially when it comes to my passion. It is easy to get discouraged, but then I realize that even the best of the best writers struggled in the beginning. Writing is not as easy as we like to make it seem, but I still wouldn’t change my decision to try.

If you live in southern Minnesota, I will have a table at the Deep Valley Book Festival in Mankato. The festival is in Sibley Park on June 28th from 11:00-3:00. Feel free to stop by if you are in the area, even if you want to just ask questions and see what Goandria is all about.
As always I welcome you, dear reader, to sign up for my newsletter.
Goandria: The Schism has been completed. If you haven’t read it and you enjoy fantasy and speculative fiction, I encourage you to download Part I for free here or you can purchase the paperback here. I have waited for over half my life to reveal Goandria to the world, and this is just the beginning. I created Goandria with a rich background, and The Schism lays that foundation. The upcoming book series will take place generations in the future. The new book will be titled Goandria: Visions of War, and it will build upon the events in the previous novel.
Visions of War will be the first book in a trilogy. New and old foes challenge the peace of Goandria. I aim to go further into exploring characters, their struggles with beliefs and finding their place in Goandria, and how they come through these situations as an old evil creeps back into their world.
Stay tuned as more details are released!
